Alert through a German story!
In the year 1871, the dream of many “Germans” came true, after for the first time in history many German-speaking peoples united under the banner of the modern German national state. The classes that led this old dream of unity are the military classes and the nobles who underestimate the philosophy and thought of the Enlightenment that emerged in Germany at least a century before the union, which was represented at the time by writers and philosophers who were steeped in spirituality and probed the depths of the human self, religiosity, utopia and romance free from modern politics and from theories of power in general (the boat of many Including politics through a vision contrary to the theories of governance that appeared at the time in Europe, Machiavelli, then Hobbes, Locke, and Montesquieu..). This German trend was represented by Kant, Leibniz, Mendelssohn, Schelink, Cote and others. They viewed politicians with contempt for being preoccupied with wars that only unite the military and the military system, and the exclusion of intellectuals and the voice of the soul from political existence. The military community also viewed the “Kultur” category with contempt for being extravagant in subjectivity and discussing problems of self and conscience.
After the unification of Germany through a grinding war with France, the bourgeoisie and other groups (including the intelligentsia) realized that a national war could be useful and positive: it united the Germans before ever, reconciling tribes, cities, palaces, and parties to internal conflict . At that time, like a fire in the woods, an ideal patriotism crammed into the folds of the political discourses of various groups for centuries.
Then the bourgeoisie and the intellectuals entered politics out of patriotism and “the will to power” (perhaps popular groups like the bourgeoisie found in the philosopher Nietzsche an expression of the complete departure of culture from idealism and esotericism towards politics and power, despite the fact that Nietzsche’s writings, investigations and research are far from this fatal understanding and close to Esoteric and higher values that Dostoevsky wrote about before him).
Everyone knows the outcome of the alliance of the different groups in Germany and in Europe in general. Alliances that have only been achieved on the backs of millions who will be crushed by patriotism because they are different religiously, culturally, economically and socially. At certain moments, racist patriotism wore the cover of defending the country’s unity from disintegration and from the danger of colonialism (Max Weber would defend Germany’s right to wage war during the First World War in defense not only of German honor but of the nature of life itself, this German life which he will say about in the same On the other bank of the Rhine, Emile Durkheim is arrogant, arrogant, and incompatible with the logic of dialogue between nations - Durkheim, who did not see the rise of Vichy Nazi patriotism in France, the Jewish sociologist who saw his son die in the war for the French homeland).
Few intellectuals have noticed the coming of the national hurricane that turned Europe into the largest cemetery in human history and imprinted it (perhaps for many contemporary and future centuries) with the character of violence, colonialism and racist politics at home and abroad - the politics of national borders and the politics of superiority and domination. There are few intellectuals who, despite all their faults, have, like Dostoevsky and Tolstoy in Russia, and then Marx in Western Europe, paid attention to the murderous tragedy of “patriots.” Pay attention only to what prophets had preceded them before the era of borders, armies, and prisons. They tried to resurrect the spirit of cosmology by means that were subjected to severe political and intellectual violence, despite the moments of resurrection with Benjamin, Heidegger (in spite of all that is said) and Michel Foucault...or in political moments that have not yet reached the degree of deep understanding and experimentation, as happened In the Syrian revolution or many experiences in Latin America and other moments of liberation around the world.
It seems that the tragedy did not stop with the white man: it planted seeds in the elites of the south and in their Baathist parties and their ruling systems based on translating the history of the anti-colonial movements into a patriotic discourse that confronts every demand for dignity through treachery, exclusion, and an empty slogan about “the homeland” and war with the outside who made them and made their hegemony all day.
