Artificial intelligence, a danger for women
For the 20th anniversary of its awareness campaign in favor of natural beauty, the Dove brand reveals the conclusions of a study “conducted worldwide among women and young girls”. If women are still subjected to this pressure (injunction) of “ideal beauty”, it turns out that this weight is increased by the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
AI, between heaven and hell…
As we know, AI is an excellent crutch for human activity, it helps stimulate creativity, promote inclusion, support learning, and advance medicine… But, like some playing cards, it has two sides. The sharp side? In the situation that concerns us, namely the representation of natural beauty, AI is a real threat. Knowing that 90% of digital content will be generated by artificial intelligence by 2025, this emerging technology represents a real danger both for the mental well-being and self-esteem of women. According to the results of the study: “3 out of 10 women feel pressure to change their appearance because of what they see online, even if they are aware that these images are false or generated by AI.” Artificial intelligence builds and consolidates unrealistic beauty standards and, through the content generated, intensifies the lack of representation of beauty in nature. Furthermore, “according to 4 out of 10 women, the ability to create different versions of themselves using AI can have a negative impact on their self-perception.” Another open door to all forms of complexes.
